KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER |
OTHER POINTS TO NOTE |
Serving
Place your feet in the box where you want them.
Look up at the spot on the wall you want to serve to.
Serve the ball.
Get your racket up so you are ready to hit the ball straight away in case the ball is hit back at you by your opponent.
Move the "T" once you have served to ensure you are ready for the return
Men have a short memory span - so ensure you serve no longer than one second after you spot the area on the front wall you want to serve to.
Racket work
Keep it "up" at all times! That is, keep it above your waist, that way you are ready to hit the ball if it comes back at you.
If you serve like a tennis player then you are likely to end up with your racket down below your waist. Best to change your serve so that you hit the ball at your side rather than above your head.
Hitting down the wall
Shoulders should be facing the side wall you are hitting down
Step forward with your front foot towards the ball
Your front foot must be perpendicular to the side wall (at 90 degress to the front wall)
Swing your racket from above your head down the in a "U" shape
Move back to the "T"
Practice!
There is no need to try to hit the ball that hard - accuracy and depth are what you are aiming for. The harder you hit the ball the more likely it will come off the back wall and make it easier for you opponent to get it back.
Hitting out of the back wall
Don't get too close to the back wall - leave at least 50cms between your feet and the wall so that you can swing your racket
If hitting to the side wall (boasting) the come down from your backswing in the start of your "U" swing and then pretend you are trying to punch your racket into the side wall, then continue up into the end of your "U"
This wall you will force the ball into the side wall and it will make the front wall at the opposite side
Do NOT get too close to the ball - you will crowd yourself and not hit the ball properly if at all!
Racket Grip
Make a "V" with your playing hand and line it up to the forehand side edge of your racket. Best to look at a picture of this that will be included in the coming weeks
It will feel uncomfortable if this is not your normal grip but stick with it as it will allow better consistency and shot play.
Lobbing
Drop your front shoulder and make your "U" swing
Bend your knees - i.e. get down low
Nice and smooth stroke
Drive and Boast drill
Best to go here to see this link |
The front person can make it harder for the back person by hitting the ball depper into the corners (try hitting higher if you are not getting deep enough). Back player hit lower and softer on the front wall to make the front person stretch
